Digitisation of law reports

There is an ongoing imperative for law reporting in the modern legal landscape to be accessible online. The Council facilitates online access to a collection of the most impactful case law  in the form of digitised and downloadable law reports as well as linking to free sites.

Digitisation of law reports

The Council recognises the evolving needs of the legal community and the broader public, and has embraced online publishing of digitised law reports. By leveraging digital technologies, the Council aims to provide timely, and comprehensive access to the most important judicial decisions.

To achieve this goal of enhanced accessibility, the Council collaborates with external partners, such as Lexis Nexis, NZLII and the Ministry of Justice. This collaborative approach allows the Council to combine its expertise in law reporting with cutting-edge digital distribution methods, ensuring that New Zealand's case law remains readily available and easily accessible in today's digital landscape.

Law reports are available via Lexis Nexis

Lexis Nexis is responsible for publishing the New Zealand Law Reports and is the only authorised law reporting service in New Zealand. Their service publishes impactful decisions in New Zealand case law, including all decisions from the Supreme Court and select decisions from the Court of Appeal and High Court. Lexis Nexis ensures the accuracy of the reports, with Supreme Court case headnotes being reviewed and approved by the Supreme Court Bench prior to publication.
